Marion High School
Terry Lakes graduated from Richmond High School and Eastern Kentucky University where he ran at an elevated level. His 35 years of coaching concluded with 32 years at Marion High School. Before that, he was at Pompano High School in Broward County, Florida. Marion teams won 17 sectional, six regional and eight North Central Conference titles in track and field. His boys and girls cross country teams have won 11 sectionals, two regional and seven NCC titles. Terry was nominated for Indiana Coach of the Year seven times and 21 times for NCC Coach of the Year. He served many positions within the IATCCC and was president of the IATCCC from 2013 to 2015. Lakes was a member of the Indiana Cross Country All-Stars for 10 years. He is currently the meet director for the NAIA National Championships and one of the meet directors for the Hoosier State Relays.
Terry was inducted into the Marion High School Hall of Fame in 2022, and into the Grant County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2023.
