Thom Smith graduated from Manchester High School in 1974, where he ran track and cross country for fellow Hall of Famer Richard “Dick” Miller.

After graduating from Ball State University in 1978, he started his teaching and coaching career at New Prairie Schools.  He began his career at the junior high school, where he was the assistant cross country coach to another fellow Hall of Famer, Doug Snyder, head boys and girls track and cross country.  He ultimately dedicated 43 amazing years to education and coaching at New Prairie before his retirement.

Coach Mark Harsha has been coaching for 32 years, 16 years as an assistant and 16 years as a head coach.  He spent his first four years at Rensselaer Central under the guidance of Indiana Hall of Fame Coach Gene Edmonds and Coach Bill Zimmer.  The remaining years of coaching has been spent at his current school, Portage High.

arry Williams graduated from Bloomington High School North (BHSN) in 1980. He was a member of the track program the last two years under the guidance of Coach John McNichols. While Williams was a student at Indiana University, Coach McNichols invited him to assist with the track program at BHSN as a volunteer.

In the spring of 1983, Williams left the BHSN program to go to Bloomington High School South as a paid assistant coach to Tom Alwine. After assisting Alwine for two track seasons and being the volunteer girls cross country coach, Williams became the head coach of boys cross country and track and field starting in the fall of 1984.

Lane graduated from Northfield High School in 1974, where he played football, basketball and competed in track and field. He received high-caliber coaching from Dick Lemming, Mark Coppler and was positively influenced by the summer AAU track meets at Northfield in the late 1960s. There, he saw the likes of Larry Highbaugh, Mike Hanna and Northfield state high jump champion Gary Haupert. While attending Purdue and student teaching at West Lafayette Junior High, Lane volunteered to coach football and track at West Lafayette High School. After one year coaching at Lebanon, he was back at West Lafayette as an assistant coach in football and track. In the 1981-1982 school year, he took over head coaching duties in track, a position he continues to hold. In 1997, he took over girls head coaching duties and also continues in that position. 

Tim Richey graduated from Tri-Central High School in 1981. His participation in AAU meets cultivated the love for track and field. He credits his coaching success to three influential mentors, his high school coach Clark Chambers (Tri-Central, North Miami, and Huntington North), Bloomington South coach Larry Williams and Lawrence Central coach Mike Holman.
