Ben Davis High School
Fasil Bizuneh grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, and graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1998. While at Ben Davis, Fasil was a three-time All-State runner in cross country, including winning the individual state title in 1996, a team state championship in 1995 and a team state runner-up finish in 1996. Fasil placed fifth at the Foot Locker National Championships and was a high school All-American in 1997.
On the track, Fasil won an individual state title in the 3200 in 1998, after finishing as the runner-up in the 3200 in both 1996 and 1997. Fasil also placed second in the 1600 in 1997 and third in the 1600 in 1998.
After his stellar high school career was completed, Fasil attended Arizona State University and majored in chemical engineering. While at ASU, he twice earned All-American honors in cross country and set school records in the outdoor 10,000 and indoor 5,000 races.
After college, Fasil raced successfully on the road, posting multiple top five finishes in annual USA road racing championships across distances from 5,000 to the marathon, including a win at the 2010 USA 10-mile championships. Fasil ran multiple 62-minute half-marathons, his best of which resulted in a second place finish at the 2007 USA Half-Marathon Championships. Fasil placed fifth in the 2006 USA Marathon Championships and earned an eighth place finish in the 2008 USA Marathon Championships.
