1974 – 1977
Dru (Cox) Pearcy of Plainfield, Indiana graduate from Plainfield High School in 1977. While there, she was a four-year multi-sport, varsity letter holder. The first Mid-State Conference girls track championship was held in 1975, and Cox was conference champion in the softball throw the first three years of the event. As a freshman, she placed 6th in the First Annual IHSAA softball throw. She came away with the two conference championships in the shot put her junior and senior years. In 1977, her 440-yard relay team won the conference meet as well.
Cox won four sectional championships, four regional, and three state championships in the softball throw. From 1975 to 1977, she was undefeated in the softball throw and shot put during the regular season. In 1977, she finished 7th at the state meet in the shot put but won her third consecutive state title in the softball throw, setting a still-standing record of 239 feet.
Being a multi-sport athlete, Cox chose to pursue basketball after high school, going on to play at Indiana State University. She was a Parade All-American in Basketball and was honored to play on the second annual Girls All-Star team her senior year. Cox was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004.
Dru continues to live in Plainfield, Indiana.
