Kerry Zimmerman’s journey from a small town athlete to an influential community figure in Corydon, Indiana, is a story of dedication, perseverance and passion. Born in the humble setting of Harrison County’s Corydon, Kerry emerged as a remarkable athlete during his time at Corydon Central High School, graduating in 1979. His senior year was marked by an extraordinary achievement of earning four varsity letters across football, basketball and track and field. Notably, Kerry’s prowess in the long jump led him to state finals qualification in his junior and senior years, securing sixth and fourth places respectively.

Born in the humble setting of Harrison County’s Corydon, Kerry emerged as a remarkable athlete during his time at Corydon Central High School, graduating in 1979. His senior year was marked by an extraordinary achievement of earning four varsity letters across football, basketball and track and field. Notably, Kerry’s prowess in the long jump led him to state finals qualification in his junior and senior years, securing sixth and fourth places respectively.

His athletic journey continued at Indiana University, where his talent in track and field flourished, earning him two Big Ten long jump titles in 1982 and 1983, alongside the prestigious 1983 NCAA decathlon championship title. In 1984, Kerry reached a significant milestone by competing in the Olympic Trials in the long jump.

After an illustrious athletic career, Kerry returned to Corydon to join the family business, Zimmerman Art Glass. Over 45 years, he has been a local staple, delighting thousands of visitors with his craft. Kerry’s contribution to his community extended beyond his business: he revitalized his connection to athletics by becoming the head coach of track and field in his hometown, a position he held with distinction for 27 years.

Kerry’s personal life is as fulfilling as his professional and athletic endeavors. Married to his high school sweetheart, Michele, they have four children and several grandchildren, epitomizing a life rich in love, achievement and service. Through his athletic achievements, business acumen and coaching legacy, Kerry Zimmerman has not only left an indelible mark on his hometown of Corydon, but also serves as an inspiring figure for aspiring athletes and entrepreneurs alike.
