Kevin Horrigan spent 40 years teaching, coaching and as athletic director at St Andrew’s Grade School, Chatard High School, Brebeuf Jesuit, Lawrence Central High School and Greenfield-Central High School. While at Chatard, he led them to city and sectional team championships, including the first time a Catholic high school won the City of Indianapolis Track and Field Championship. He coached two All-Americans: fellow Hall of Famer James Murphy, who was All-American in cross country and in the 1600, and Terry Franklin, who was All-American in the long jump.
He was athletic director at Brebeuf Jesuit, Lawrence Central and Greenfield-Central High Schools, giving up coaching at the latter two.
Following retirement, Horrigan became the high jump and pole vault coach at Guerin Catholic High School in 2016 and continues to the present. His athletes have broken Guerin’s records 37 times.
He has twice been selected Indiana Boys Coach for the Midwest Meet of Champions and is a 26-year member of the IATCCC. In 1976, he began officiating and this year will work his 700th meet.
