In 1949 a group of track and field coaches got together to form an association to improve the sport of track and field IATC (later cross country was added IATCCC).
The following were the first Officers of the association:
- President – Gordon Fisher, Indiana University;
- Secretary/Treasurer – Frank Kurth, Hobart High School;
- Vice President District I – John Wonsowicz, Hammond High School;
- District II – Rolla Champers, Fort Wayne North High School;
- District III Cloyd Julian , Indianapolis Washington High School;
- District IV - Carl Bonge, Anderson High School;
- District V George McCormack, Vincennes High School;
- Collegiate – Galvin Walker, Butler University
- Editor of Hoosier Trackman – Roy Aberson, Indianapolis Shortridge.
Membership dues were $1.00.
