In 1918, Charles Ivy of Rochester High School and Fred Trotter of North Salem High School became the second and third winners of the same event for three consecutive years.

Only Shirlie Deming of Manual Training High School had won an event three times. He won the 440-yard dash in 1905, 1906 and 1907. Trotter did this in the mile run and Ivy in the high jump. Trotter had broken John Nay of Sheridan High School’s record of 4:44.8 in 1917 with his winning time of 4:42.4 and came back in 1918 to break his own record with a 4:39.1. Ivy broke Luther Ellis of Bluffton High School’s record of 5-9 3/4 with a jump of 5-10 1/2 in 1916. In 1917, he broke his record with a jump of 5-11. In 1918, his jump of 5-9 would not break his record set in 1917.

Note: Harry Hull of Noblesville High School jumped 6-1 1/2 during the season and no one would jump that height until 1933 when Jerry Gracin of Gary Froebel went 6-3.825.
